Developed mainly for \u201cwomen\u201d is a North American form of martial art known as Wen Do. This \u201cself defense\u201d style of martial art is said to have originated from the city of Toronto located in Canada. Furthermore, this form of self defense was created by a married couple Ned and Ann Paige. Apparently, this couple was trained in martial art forms such as jujutsu, karate, and judo. In addition, an increasing number of women over the years have learnt this form of martial art as a mode of \u201cself defense\u201d.<\/p>\n
a. History\/origin of the Wen-Do:<\/strong><\/p>\n On March 13th<\/sup> 1964, a 28-year-old American Bar manager Kitty Genovese was brutally murdered outside her home in New York. It was this gruesome incident that inspired a married Canadian couple Ned and Ann Paige to develop a form of martial art which was called \u201cWen-Do\u201d to help women protect themselves from such horrific attacks.<\/p>\n b. Weapon used in the Wen-Do:<\/strong><\/p>\n Since Wen-Do is essentially a form of \u201cself defense\u201d the weapon mainly used would be the hands and legs.<\/p>\n c. Technique used in the Wen-Do and training availability:<\/strong><\/p>\n In terms of technique, Wen-Do essentially teaches a woman to use basic moves of self defense such as blocks, strikes, releases, arm holds, body holds, chokes etc. Furthermore, strategies such as calming oneself, reasoning, confronting the attacker is also taught in Wen-Do. As for training centers\/schools, there are few available especially in North America for those \u201cwomen\u201d who are interested in acquiring some essential self defense skills.<\/p>\n
