Also known as \u201cMuto\u201d is an East Asian martial art form known as Tegumi. This \u201cgrappling\u201d combat form is said to have originated from the island of Okinawa in Japan. Also known as \u201cgrappling hand\u201d this style of combat is basically what is known as \u201cwrestling\u201d. Furthermore, the Tegumi is known to have served as a precursor to the creation of a combat form called \u201cTe\u201d which is the base on which modern day \u201cKarate\u201d has been developed.<\/p>\n
a. History\/origin of Tegumi:<\/strong><\/p>\n According to a book known as \u201cTales of Okinawa\u2019s Great Masters\u201d written by a karate master Shoshin Nagamine there is no one historical source which describes the development of this form of wrestling known as \u201cTegumi\u201d. Furthermore, this books states that this form of combat style actually evolved from an \u201cancient\u201d style of wrestling gradually over the years within the Japanese society. In addition, Nagamine also believed that this martial art form was the original style of fighting that existed in the Okinawa Island which eventually led to creation of modern Karate. Apparently, this form of wrestling remained extremely popular within the country right until the \u201cTaisho Era\u201d which began in 1912 and ended in 1925.<\/p>\n b. Weapon used in the Tegumi:<\/strong><\/p>\n Since \u201cgrappling\u201d technique is used in this form of combat the \u201chands and legs\u201d of the fighter is basically used as a weapon by the fighter.<\/p>\n c. Technique involved in the Tegumi and training availability:<\/strong><\/p>\n In terms of technique, \u201cgrappling\u201d technique is used by a wrestler to overcome an opponent. Furthermore, \u201ckicking and punching\u201d may also be used in this martial art form. In addition, common wrestling moves such as \u201csubmission, joint locks, strangles, and pinning\u201d are also used. As for training centers\/schools, there are a number of them available mainly in Japan for those interested in learning this \u201cgrappling\u201d combat form.<\/p>\n
