This \u201cself-defense\u201d oriented martial art form is said to have originated from China. Furthermore, this form of combat is renowned for being \u201cdirect and efficient\u201d. In addition, this form of martial art was created by a Shaolin nun named Ng Mui who based it on a philosophy that states the following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOne who excels as a warrior does not appear formidable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One who excels in fighting is never aroused in anger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One who excels in defeating their enemy does not join issues.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One who excels in employing others humbles themselves before them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is the virtue of non-contention and matching the sublimity of heaven\u201d.<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0History\/origin of the Wing Chun:<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the cultural history of China, this form of martial art existed in the country during the late 18<sup>th<\/sup> century. Furthermore, it is said that the creation of Wing Chun is based on a popular Chinese legend as told by a popular martial artist named Yip Man. Now as per this folklore, there existed a woman named Wing Chun during the Qing dynasty era.\u00a0 Apparently, a local landlord once offered to marry Wing. In response to this proposal, she said she would consider it only if he managed to beat her in open combat. It was thus to prepare for her fight with the landlord that she requested a Buddhist nun named Ng Mui to teach her the art of fighting. This request was accepted by Mui who then trained Wing in a new martial form, which was as aptly named \u201cWing Chun\u201d. In addition, according to Mui this form of martial art was developed after observing the real-life confrontations of a \u201csnake and a crane\u201d.<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Weapons used in the Wing Chun:<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are two basic weapons used in Wing Chun, and they are as follows:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong> Butterfly Knives: <\/strong>Basically comprise of pair of large knives that are slightly shorter in length as compared to swords. According to history, these knives were also known as \u201cDit Ming Do\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Long Pole: <\/strong>Basically comprises of a tapered wooden pole which is about 8 to 13 feet in length. In addition, it also at times referred to as the \u201cDragon Pole\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00a0Techniques involved in the Wing Chun, and training availability:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In terms of technique, a fighter in this form of combat mainly uses \u201cstriking\u201d techniques to overcome an opponent. So moves such as kicks, punches, and elbow\/knee strikes are mainly used by fighters during a duel.
